“Yellow Fever” That’s all?
Malaria, Check. Typhoid, Check. Diphtheria, Check. Japanese Encyp.. What? Wow, Traveling should really come with a warning label. It’s a well know fact that vaccines are not only smart, but a necessity when traveling throughout certain parts of the world. Fortunately, I managed to dodge a bullet while I was in the military by receiving almost every vaccine needed for this trip. Yellow Fever seems to be the only immunization that I will have to get.
Yellow Fever also known as Yellow Jacket, Black Vomit, or sometimes the American Plague is a viral disease carried by mosquitos. Some of the symptoms include, fever, headaches, nausea, bleeding into the skin, vomiting, constipation, Jaundice and “coffee ground” color vomit. Followed by delirium, coma and finally death. Um, NO THANKS. Needless to say I will be receiving this Vaccine.
I have decided to skip getting the Japanese Encephalitis and rabies vaccinations. I feel those shots are only necessary if there are specific outbreaks in regions I will be heading to. I will be saving over $500 on the shots that I already have had and only be spending about $100 on Yellow Fever. I am pretty excited about this as an extra $500 will go a long way on this trip. This week I plan on having the Yellow Fever vaccine ordered so I can get it out of the way.
